Yesterday after we arrived we were greeted by Jeff Tuer. He is a captain for the local TowBoatUS affiliate here in Chesapeake City. We had become friends on Facebook and he knew we were arriving and he stopped to visit. We spent several hours together with Jeff and his wife and had an awesome evening with them.

We departed from Chesapeake City at approximately 0700 hours just as the tide was switching from flood to ebb. Our destination for the day was Galesville, MD off the West River south of Annapolis. MD. We have stopped here several times and find it to be a good stop for the night.

Weather for the day was totally as predicted… less than 1 foot seas… most of the day it was flat calm and the ebb tide gave us a boost of speed for most of the day… 8 knots plus… it was great… but it can’t last forever and a hour or so before arriving in Galesville we started to experience a little current on our bow and slowed slightly.

Nothing out of the ordinary happened today… several boats passed us going north as south… most seemed like locals rather than cruiser heading south. Overall it was an awesome day of cruising.

We arrived to Galesville, MD at approximately 1500 hours and docked at the city docks which between Pirates Cove and Thursday’s Restaurant. Our location is N38°50.54’, W076°32.347.

We traveled today for 8 hours covering 56.77 nautical miles averaging 7.1 knots.

Short day planned for today… destination Chesapeake City, MD… due to current we had to get an early start so we set our alarm for 0530 hours… however, we were both up and getting ready to leave before the alarm went off. We departed at approximately 0630 hours and headed out of the Cohansey River toward the Delaware Bay. There was just enough daylight to be able to see the crab trap floats and avoid hitting any of them and there were a lot them to avoid.

It was a calm day with less than one foot waves and absolutely no recreational boat traffic… we only saw commercial crabbers and a couple of ships. In the C&D Canal we had a large ship… car carrier following us all the way to Chesapeake City… it was huge.

We arrived to Chesapeake City at approximately 1200 hours and docked at the city docks which are free dockage and $15 for electric. We were soon joined by two other boats at the docks and the dock was full… believe I saw another 4-5 boats come into the harbor and anchor.

We traveled today for 5 hours and 30 minutes covering 33.8 nautical miles averaging 6.15 knots.

Last night we found Scales the restaurant dock we tied up to was closed so we walked a 150 feet behind Scales and had a great burger and some beers at the Back Bay Ale House in Atlantic City. Got back to boat at about 2200 hours and went right to bed. I guess we were tired after the long day or maybe it was the burger and beers.

We did not set an alarm and got a slightly later start than planned but we we free from the dock and underway at 0800 hours. We had the current with us as we left the inlet but once out into the Atlantic we lost all the boost in speed and cruised along steadily most of the at between 6.9 and 7.1 knots.

As we approached the inlet into Cape May we started getting some help with the flooding current… got up to almost 9 knots going through the inlet and maintained over 8 knots all the way through Cape may and into Delaware Bay. Then we lost our speed boost… we still had a flood tide but we also had a 20-25 knot NW wind directly on our nose and it was blowing straight down the Delaware Bay stirring up a good 3-4 foot chop… slowed us down to between 6.8 and 7.0 knots. It did improve the farther we went up the Bay as the waves decreased in size… soon we had a good boost and ran at over 7 knots consistently all the way to the Cohansey River.

We turned to starboard and entered the Cohansey River at just before sunset at 1800 hours. The Cohansey twists and turns like a snake and can have a wicked current. This time we had little to no current as the it wa just beginning to a switch from a flood to and ebb tide. Takes 30 minutes to go up the river and to the marina where we docked.

At approximately 1830 hours we docked at a boat yard between Greenwich Boat Works and Hancock’s Harbor Marina… not sure what the name of the place is… there was no one around and no power on the dock so I imagine this is going to be a FREE night. Our location is N39°22.662’, W075°21.

We traveled today for 10 hours and 30 minutes covering 74.32 nautical miles averaging 7.08 knots.
